Carrows Restaurant Disses Community with Lame Claim

Carrows doesn’t get it.

I‘ve been taking each of my three daughters to weekly one-on-one breakfasts at Carrows for over seven years now.

We know everyone on staff by name and many of the other regular customers as well. I don’t even want to think about what we’ve spent on meals there through the years.

For the first time one of my daughters asks the local manager to place an ad in her middle school’s yearbook. The price is nominal and gives Carrows positive exposure to the local families they serve.

Carrows doesn’t get it, though.

That the local manager said, “No,” to sponsoring an ad is not the problem.

What’s troubling is that he didn’t even have the authority to make a local decision on behalf of the community which he knows best and in which he hosts a community gathering place.

No, he had to ask permission to spend $200. He looks and acts like a perfectly responsible adult capable of making $200 decisions to me. But not evidently to his corporate superiors.

The answer came back from Corporate, “No.”

Carrows doesn’t get it.

That Corporate decided, “No,” to sponsoring an ad is still not the problem.

What’s troubling is their rationale. “If we buy a yearbook ad here, we’ll have to buy one everywhere.”

“Have to!?” Who’s forcing them? If it weren’t so laughable to hear a corporation of Carrow’s size claim powerlessness, (like an overwhelmed parent trying to mollify bickering teens,) it would be scandalous. Pathetic is probably the best word.

Carrows doesn’t get it.

Seven years of relationship. Seven years of laughter in the morning. Seven years of kind-hearted waitresses showing interest in my daughters growing up. Seven years of building community. Or so we thought.

Somebody in Corporate probably got a raise for saving that $200. Is anyone tracking what they’ve lost?
