that is so right…..I have found that I can convince myself of ANYTHING. I can justify and postulate and make excuses for any thought or behavior if I try hard enough

I think that’s why it intrigues me so much that Dostoevsky simply lays out the implications for his readers to reflect on, instead of moralizing about it.
Fiction can be such a powerful communication vehicle!
